The densest route for anyone short on time. Leave Tashkent on Saturday morning and be in Samarkand two hours later; back on Sunday evening. Two days covering the Registan, Gur-e-Amir, Shah-i-Zinda and Siab bazaar — all within walking distance.

Day by day
Morning train, hotel check-in and straight to the Registan. We come back after dark, when the floodlit square looks nothing like it did by day.
The Shah-i-Zinda mausoleums in the morning, then the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the Siab bazaar next door. Evening train back to Tashkent.
